A hospice will start providing care for former president Jimmy Carter.
In a statement released on Saturday by the Carter Center, it was revealed that the 98-year-old former president would be transitioned to hospice care after “a succession of brief hospital admissions.”
Jimmy Carter, a former US president, “decided today to forego any further medical treatment in order to spend his remaining time at home with his family and to accept hospice care,” the statement continues. He has the unwavering support of his family as well as those who are taking care of him.
“The Carter family requests privacy during this time and is grateful for the compassion expressed by his many admirers,” the statement’s final line read. The Carter family, with whom the president had a close relationship, will miss him dearly.
President Carter’s health report comes after he achieved a milestone by taking office for the longest period of time in October.
Since President George H.W. Bush passed away in November 2018 at the age of 94, he has held this position since taking the oath of office in March 2019.
President Carter and Rosalynn Carter launched the Carter Center in 1982, and in the forty years afterward, it has significantly aided numerous humanitarian causes.
Even though President Carter only held office for four years, throughout the past 40 years, he has been able to use his legacy to benefit people not only in the United States but also in other countries.
Since leaving the White House, President Carter has lived an extraordinarily long life, which has allowed him to write 30 books, the most recent of which was published when he was 93, and return to the uncomplicated American way of life that he and Rosalynn have always cherished. He outlived Herbert Hoover’s second-longest post-presidency timespan by a decade, surviving 41 years and counting after leaving the White House. Furthermore, President Carter was able to reestablish the straightforward American way of life.
